The famous French architect Jean Nouvel designed the 75 m high tower with 18 storeys on behalf of the Austrian bank insurance group UNIQA.

The “Nouvel Tower Vienna“, which was only called “Praterstraße 1” during the construction phase, represents a new urbanistic highlight at the “Donaukanal” in Vienna. Since its ceremonial opening on December 14th 2010, the Tower includes the luxury hotel Sofitel Vienna Stephansdom, the restaurant „Le LOFT“ and the design center by Stilwerk. The famous French architect Jean Nouvel designed the 75 m high tower with 18 storeys on behalf of the Austrian bank insurance group UNIQA. Lindner GmbH Österreich was in charge of the accomplishment of the complicated ceiling construction. The complex ceiling elements were produced in the factory of the Lindner Group in Arnstorf.

Regarding this ambitious project, the ceiling system LMD-E 213 CL was selected. The innovative ceiling element COMPline by Lindner achieved the combination of the required “non-combustibility” and a light grammage considering the desired large-sized and planar ceiling elements. Trapezoidal customised ceiling elements in large format with dimensions of 3.35 x 1.35 m were used, whereas a precious mirror ceiling made of highly polished stainless steel was chosen for prestigious areas.

Though, this was not the only challenge of this ambitious project due to the fact that partly installation heights of less than 100 mm had to be observed. At the same time, the ceiling systems had to fulfill the building material class A2 in some areas. The advantages of LMD CL – » COMPline ceiling elements, which are ideally suitable for this kind of project, result from the triple-layered construction. The central layer consists of aluminium honeycombs, which are available in different thicknesses. The top layer is made of an aluminium ceiling panel which will be connected to the aluminium honeycombs and a countermove sheet. Due to the sandwich design, the surface of the ceiling panel achieves excellent evenness despite large dimensions.

For some areas, Lindner developed a new sophisticated swing-down mechanism for ceiling panels to facilitate frequent inspection works in the future. Additionally installed plasterboard and expanded metal ceilings arrange for versatile visual variants. The » expanded metal ceilings achieve lifelike and interesting effects regarding the lighting design thanks to translucent illuminants. Lindner » metal ceilings also demonstrate their creativity and flexibility in terms of colour by means of modern shades of grey and black, which are accomplished alternately matt and shiny. Varied optics resulting from the combination of plain and perforated surfaces will surely become an eye-catcher for all visitors.
