Through the new facade system with building-integrated photovoltaics (GIPV) Lindner improves the energy efficiency of the Westend Gate venture in Frankfurt am Main, which has been awarded the “Green Building Certificate” of the European Union.

This skyscraper was erected in 1976 and at the time the 159 m high structure was the tallest building in Germany. Also known as the Marriott Hotel, the building comprises office spaces and houses hotel and gastronomy enterprises.

In order to lower energy consumption by 36% a complete modernisation and energy-saving restoration of the building was planned, managed by the architectural firm Just/Burgeff. The Lindner Group took the revitalisation of the facade in hand. Works included decontamination and sealing, renewal of the parapet with malleable metal claddings, and the recoating of the cold facade sheets with integrated solar modules. The renewal of the pilaster strips with integrated rail guides for the elevator units, and the cleaning and recoating of the technical floors were also carried out by Lindner.

Inverters and 10,500 polycrystalline solar cells from Sunways achieve a top performance of 22 kW. A renovation of the building services means an additional reduction of CO2 emissions.
What’s more, on top of the environmental improvements rental costs at Westend Gate are also being lowered thanks to the above renovation measures.
