The Bayerische Zentrum für Angewandte Energieforschung e.V. (ZAE Bayern, Bavarian Centre for Applied Energy Research) welcomed around 100 guests from the worlds of politics, business, science and society to the foundation stone ceremony at its new institute, under construction in Würzburg.

Just a year after the planning was begun for this ambitious construction and research project, the work on the building shell is now starting. The project is characterised by the use of numerous innovative energy-efficient technologies, making it a national and international reference object. As early as spring, the excavators were digging on the “Am Hubland” site to make room for the building’s foundations and to enable the deadline for completion at the end of 2012 to be met. Laboratories, a technical centre, offices and a publicly accessible information centre will be created over two floors with total floor space of approx. 3400m².
