Paving the Way for the Future - VW Competence Centre Hall 90B
In 2014, the new competence centre for Research & Development of electromobility within the automotive group from Wolfsburg has been opened. Lindner Group was largely involved in the interior fit-out of the "E-Campus".
Hall 90B, designed by the architects of RKW Rhode Kellermann Wawrowsky in Düsseldorf, offers 42,900 m² of space on eight storeys. About 1,800 employees of VW work in the building. Considering the tightened situation at VW´s main production site, the building´s narrow and linear shape makes perfect use of the available space. Five stairways and a central elevator system ensure short ways within this large construction. However, the main traffic hub of the Hall 90B is its glazed interior hall that extends over the whole length of the building and reaches a height of 25 metres. In this way, easy access to the gastronomic areas, central meeting rooms and all office areas is ensured.
Lindner Group has already been involved in the construction of Hall 90B during the planning phase, acting as a counselor for RKW Architekten. The glass partition system Lindner Life 126 had been chosen for the interior facade of the interior hall, which - in combination with the corresponding doors - played an important role in reaching the desired level of transparency within the building. Since the automotive industry does not allow the use of silicone, the system had to be customized to meet the new requirements. At the same time, the functionality of the sound-absorbing and collapse-proof system needed to be enhanced by fire-resistant properties according to F30.
Apart from the interior facade, Lindner was also contracted with large amounts of dry construction works in the public and office areas. Lindner hollow floors have also been installed, a part of them being 3,600 sqm of FLOOR and more® power. Their extraordinary load-bearing power was necessary in the workshops, where heavy vehicles are moved.
