Description

Project: Auen School Complex
Description:

The Auen school complex in Frauenfeld was built in the 1960s by the architects Barth and Zaugg – both representatives of the “Solothurner Schule”. The listed ensemble of loosely grouped buildings is an important testimony to late Swiss Modernism. In order to continue using the facility as a school, the buildings were expanded and brought up-to-date. Nevertheless, the architecturally and historically valuable character of the buildings was preserved.

Among other things, the existing double size gym was expanded to a triple size gym, in which Lindner's ball-proof chilled ceiling makes a significant contribution to the pleasant temperature during physical education. In the school rooms themselves, etched glazed skylights were realised as well as metal and glazed partitions for separated spaces. The latter achieve pleasant acoustics in the learning and working areas with a sound reduction index of Rw = 39 dB (glass) and Rw = 59 dB (metal). In addition, Lindner installed metal wall claddings and hook-on metal ceilings that visually round off the rooms to the sides and upwards. Soundproof door elements and tailor-made plasterboard partitions between the listed steel girders complete the interior fit-out.
