Description

Project: Pierre Boulez Hall
Description:

The Barenboim-Said Academy in the heart of Berlin sees its purpose in the promotion of musicians from the Middle East. This institute was established in the former storage building of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, which was redeveloped for this purpose with great effort. The heartpiece of the building is the concert hall named after the conductor Pierre Boulez. Within the Pierre Boulez Hall, the orchestra is located centrally between the 682 seats of the guests, which are arranged on two levels. The acoustics planning was carried out by the Japanese Master Yasuhisa Toyota.

Lindner Objektdesign GmbH contracted with the complete interior fit-out of the Pierre Boulez Hall, giving the company opportunity to implement its long-standing expertise in projects of this kind. The project stipulated high standards in regard of appearance, functionality and acoustics, which needed to be realised through construction. The beginning was marked by the development of the ceiling and wall structure of the hall, including the development of execution planning, production planning and installation planning, partially in 3D. All measurements have been created in 3D. The steel construction for the hall´s substructure required about 90 tonnes of steel. Afterwards, claddings for walls and ceilings have been installed, which have been fitted with Douglas fir wood veneer and executed partially with bended shape. These claddings reach fire protection class B1, hardly inflammable, at a weight of at least 60 kg/m² for the walls and 100 kg/m² for the ceiling claddings. What followed were numerous fixed installations; including furniture, benches, metal bannisters as well as highly insulating noise protection windows. The three-dimensionally deformed upper level was cladded on the interior and exterior with acoustically effective fabric panels, which are also three-dimensionally deformed. Curved glass fins integrated in the ceiling cladding further improve the acoustics. The hall was also fitted with fire and noise protection doors.
