Urban Media Space Aarhus, also known as Dokk1, is currently the largest and one of the most spectacular libraries in Scandinavia. Planning and design of this 280-million-Euro construction was undertaken by

Danish 'schmidt hammer lassen architects', a renowned expert for libraries and known for its ability to interpret urban design in its concepts. Dokk1 strives to be much more than just a library, it is designed to offer the citizens of Aarhus enough space for exchanging ideas and gathering - this endeavour is supported by the building´s central location between the town centre, central station and harbour. Visitors of the library enjoy a striking view over the harbour of Aarhus, the second-largest city in Denmark. This view is a product of the transparent design of the intermediate level, housing the library. The upper level is not by any means less transparent, however, this level is mainly occupied by office areas.

 

Being an expert for extraordinary solutions, Lindner AG was awarded to supply and install thermal and acoustic insulations and two kinds of metal ceiling systems fitted both in interior and exterior areas. Levels 0 and 1 of the building were fitted with anodized aluminium hook-on panels with 50mm large perforations. Due to the nearby ocean, it was necessary to cover all remaining surfaces with a C4-coating. The second level and all atrias were cladded with large-meshed expanded metal ceiling system out of anodized aluminum.
