Description

Project: King Shaka Int. Airport
Description:

King Shaka International Airport replaced the existing Durban International Airport that was decommissioned. A total of R6.8 billion was invested in the new airport and it was inaugurated on time for the 2010 FIFA World Football Championship. King Shaka International was designed to grow in International services and remains a key airport to Domestic services throughout South Africa. It serves the “Golden Triangle” between Cape Town International, OR Tambo International in Johannesburg, and King Shaka itself. With an annual passenger capacity of 7,5 million, the airport is one of largest and busiest in Africa.

Lindner supplied metal hook-on ceilings of type LMD-E 214 for the interior of the new terminal of King Shaka International Airport. Some of the decisive factors for the choice of this system were the freedom of design it offers thanks to open joints and the easy maintenance thanks to individually removable ceiling panels. Also, the ceilings improve the acoustics in the terminal with perforated ceilling panels and acoustically effective inlays. The other part of Lindner´s contribution to the terminal were exterior perforated hook-on ceilings of type LMD-E 213 WL, which were installed on exterior ceiling areas.
