The United Arab Emirates pavilion designed for the EXPO Shanghai 2010 was refurbished and given a new location: It is now located on the Saadiyat Island peninsula in Abu Dhabi. For the renovation, Lindner was commissioned to realise the entire building envelope on behalf of the Department of Culture and Tourism Abu Dhabi (DCT).

The pavilion was redesigned according to plans by MZ Architects Abu Dhabi: the freely shaped roof and skylights arch into sand dunes and combine different materials. Within seven months, Lindner realised a new roof system, a curtain wall, the entrance areas and two skylights.

The outer layer of the roof consists of porcelain tiles with a silver grey glaze with bios self-cleaning treatment. Each of them has a different angle to the sun to achieve the special look. They were attached by hand. The steel glass façade on the ground floor was equipped with polygonal insulating glass and escape door systems. The two skylights with their different geometries extend over a total of 1,400 m². The glasses were deformed to reproduce a homogeneous and flowing 3D surface.

The art institute "Berklee College of Music Abu Dhabi" is currently on the premises and enlivens the pavilion with concerts and dance.
