Helmholtz Munich

Refurbishment of the Radiation Hall into an Innovative Conference Centre

On the research campus of the Helmholtz Centre in Munich, a new space for communication has been created: the existing “Strahlenhalle” from the 1960s was comprehensively modernised and converted into a conference centre designed to promote daily exchange as well as national and international events. The core of the refurbishment is a lecture hall with 400 seats, flexible seminar rooms, and a spacious foyer featuring a reception area, café, and brand space.

Interior Fit-Out by the Lindner Group

The Lindner Group was responsible for key trades during the conversion, implementing high-performance, project-specific solutions for floors, ceilings, and walls.

In the large lecture hall, a new tiered seating structure was installed using the FLOOR and more® arena hollow floor system. This combines high load-bearing capacity and comprehensive fire protection in line with building material class A1. It also offers maximum flexibility in design – whether straight, radial, or freeform – the system can be individually adapted, ensuring safe and comfortable use even with large audiences.

Acoustic Optimisation

To achieve optimal sound quality and a contemporary interior design, white COMP+ wall claddings with micro-perforated surfaces were installed. These provide excellent sound absorption while remaining lightweight, creating a pleasant acoustic environment. They were complemented by expanded metal panels on ceilings and walls, as well as bespoke furniture and cladding elements throughout the halls.

Transparent Spatial Design

In the entrance area, the Lindner Life Freeze 137 glass partition system with large-scale fire protection elements ensures an open yet secure spatial layout. The flush-bonded glazing integrates seamlessly into the overall architectural concept, providing both transparency and safety in the event of a fire.
