Revitalisation of the Jesuit Refectory, Rosenhain

The "Old Jesuit Refectory" at Rosenhain, a 17th-century monastery building, has been meticulously restored and revitalized with great respect for its heritage. Following an extensive renovation under strict monument preservation guidelines, the historic structure has been given new life.

Today, the building houses the Institute of Movement Science, Sport, and Health at the University of Graz. Covering approximately 1,800 m² of usable space, it now features modern workspaces, seminar rooms for up to 284 people, a lecture hall, and versatile event areas designed for collaboration and exchange.

The goal of this revitalization project was to create an inspiring environment for research, cooperation, and knowledge sharing, enriching both the university’s infrastructure and the educational landscape of the city. The building’s impressive vaulted ceilings have been preserved in their original form and enhanced with durable, eco-friendly materials, blending historical character with contemporary functionality.

Lindner GmbH was involved in the redesign of the lecture theatre, focusing on the construction of a tiered seating area, fully built using the FLOOR and more® arena hollow-floor system. The high level of prefabrication allows the floor system to be assembled quickly. Both the tiered seating structure and the panels laid on it are made from these floor elements, which provide not only stability but also enhanced fire safety. The seating area is further enhanced by integrated step swirl diffusers, creating a pleasant ambience.

Through close collaboration with the project team and the other service providers, we succeeded in achieving an excellent result for the students.
