With the renovation and extension of the Bayreuth City Hall, the new Friedrichsforum is being created in a central location near Friedrichstraße and the New Palace with its Hofgarten. The project transforms the former city hall into a modern cultural and event venue, upgrading the existing structure both functionally, technically and acoustically to meet future requirements.
The new Friedrichsforum will become an important meeting place for business, university, arts, culture and the local community. The project is currently in the final phase of completion.
The Lindner Group was responsible for the interior fit-out of the Grand Hall, the Small Hall and the Hofgarten Hall. The focus was on high-quality, functional and fire-resistant construction solutions that meet the demanding acoustic and architectural requirements of a contemporary event and conference center.
With dimensions of approximately 25 m in length and 21 m in width, the Grand Hall forms the architectural centerpiece of the building. Here, Lindner installed a high-quality wall and ceiling cladding system using FIREwood, a sound-absorbing slatted wall system based on calcium sulphate with a real wood veneer in walnut appearance.
FIREwood combines the aesthetics of natural wood with non-combustible material properties, meeting the strict requirements for assembly areas and escape routes. In addition to the wall surfaces, ceiling areas above the lower tier and the upper grandstand were also clad with FIREwood, creating a consistent and warm architectural design.
The concept was complemented by fire-rated and acoustic doors, ensuring both safety and optimal sound performance. For the complex substructure of the installation, around 150 tons of steel were used, highlighting the structural scale of the project.
A special highlight of the Grand Hall is the installation of height-adjustable acoustic ceiling panels above the grandstand, each measuring 15 × 5 meters. The construction consists of steel and timber components that were delivered in individual parts, pre-assembled on the floor and lifted into place using chain hoists.
Thanks to electronic control, the acoustic properties of the hall can be adjusted depending on the type of event – whether theatre performances, concerts, conferences or gala events. This adaptable acoustic system supports the multifunctional use of the hall.
Lindner also implemented an innovative solution for the floor construction. Over an area of approximately 700 m², the FLOOR and more® arena raised floor system was installed.
This dry hollow floor system is not only sustainable and high-performance but also height-adjustable. In the rear section of the hall, the floor can be electronically raised to create a tiered seating arrangement. This allows the space to be transformed flexibly between a classic flat-floor configuration and a grandstand setup.
A high-quality Lindner parquet flooring was installed above the raised floor system, completing the elegant interior design of the hall.
In the Small Hall, Lindner implemented a combination of oak wall claddings and fabric-covered acoustic ceiling panels. The natural wood surfaces create a warm and welcoming atmosphere, while the acoustic elements ensure excellent sound conditions for events.
The Hofgarten Hall features mobile partition walls, enabling flexible room configurations and versatile use for conferences, receptions or cultural events. The interior design is complemented by custom-built cabinet systems and the composite wall cladding system FIREwood.
With the interior fit-out of the Bayreuth City Hall, Lindner makes a significant contribution to the realization of a future-oriented cultural infrastructure project. Once completed in early 2026, the Friedrichsforum Bayreuth will serve as a new cultural hub for the city, combining flexible spatial concepts, excellent acoustics and high-quality interior architecture that brings together functionality, safety and design.
