New Construction of Clay School, Berlin

The new Clay School in Berlin-Neukölln is a modern educational building that combines the requirements of contemporary pedagogy with the school’s music-focused orientation. The new building provides space for over 1,000 pupils and brings together education, music, sport, and community under one roof. Client is the Neukölln District Office, and the design was created by Staab Architekten.

A key feature of the project is the flexible room design. This allows for a variety of learning and event formats – from focused lessons and music rehearsals to performances in the large auditorium. The school is complemented by a double sports hall and a versatile outdoor sports facility.

Individual Interior Fit-Out Trades

For the new Clay School, the Lindner Group was responsible for central interior fit-out trades, making a significant contribution to the building’s flexible and practical use.

The scope of work included the production and supply of wooden doors from Lindner’s own factory. Some were manufactured as fire doors to safely and compliantly separate the different areas of the building. The doors integrate harmoniously into the overall architectural concept and are designed to withstand the particular demands of a busy school environment.

In addition, Lindner installed mobile partition walls and high-quality wall cladding, supporting the flexible use of rooms and enabling easy zoning of learning clusters, group rooms, and communal spaces for varying group sizes. Complementary wall cladding contributes to a cohesive overall appearance and ensures a durable, low-maintenance interior.

On-Site Joinery for a Perfect Fit

A special feature of the project was Lindner’s on-site joinery workshop. Raw materials and finished panels were individually cut and precisely aligned to the architectural specifications.

Benefits on site included shorter response times, increased execution reliability, and flexibility to finalise details in close coordination with the designers and client. At the same time, local fabrication reduced transport requirements and packaging materials – contributing to efficient, sustainable construction.
