New Construction of the Flugfeldklinikum

The Flugfeld area, located between the cities of Böblingen and Sindelfingen, spans approximately 80 hectares, making it one of the largest urban development projects in Southern Germany. By 2030, this area is set to become a forward-thinking and sustainable district, offering ideal conditions for both living and working - while placing a strong emphasis on environmental sustainability and social responsibility.

A cornerstone of this development is the newly built Flugfeldklinikum Böblingen-Sindelfingen, designed not only for immediate medical care but also to replace the existing hospitals in Böblingen and Sindelfingen. Renovating or operating both hospitals individually would have required significantly higher personnel and financial resources.

A State-of-the-Art Healthcare Facility with 700 Beds

Conceived as a modern healthcare center, the Flugfeldklinikum will provide a wide range of medical services and specialist departments, with a total capacity of 700 beds. The architectural design combines contemporary aesthetics with functional efficiency, using energy-efficient construction methods throughout.

Innovative Facade Design for Energy Efficiency and Visual Harmony

The building’s facade was designed by Telluride Architects and h4a Gessert + Randecker Architekten, who selected a harmonious combination of horizontal, cream-colored glass fiber concrete strips and gray-brown clinker brick slips. This modern facade not only enhances the visual appeal but also supports the building’s thermal insulation, featuring a 24 cm-thick ventilated rock wool insulation layer.

Lindner Building Envelope: Turnkey Facade Construction

Lindner Building Envelope is responsible for approximately 10,000 m² of glass fiber concrete facade and around 11,500 m² of ventilated curtain wall systems with bonded clinker brick slips. Additionally, the company is supplying and installing precast concrete components, parapet cladding, and numerous custom facade solutions.

A key factor in the project’s efficiency has been the development of a specialized transport and installation trolley for the glass fiber concrete panels. Depending on weather conditions, up to 500 m² of clinker brick slips are installed each week - ensuring steady progress toward completion.
