New Global Headquarters for Philips in Amsterdam

The new global Philips headquarters at Prinses Irenestraat 59 is a comprehensive redevelopment of a 1970s office building in Amsterdam’s Zuidas district. Through an extensive refurbishment of both interior and exterior spaces, an open-plan office environment was created, combining contemporary ways of working, user comfort, and energy efficiency. The transformation of the existing building aimed to use its structures responsibly while reinterpreting them architecturally.

A deliberate choice to revitalise rather than rebuild defined the project. Retaining the load-bearing concrete foundation reduced CO₂ emissions compared with constructing a new building, aligning with the company’s long-term climate goals. After approximately 18 months of construction, the five-storey building now meets modern standards of comfort and quality, facilitating collaboration, short distances, and visual openness.

Flexible, Zoned Workspaces

The office environment has been designed as a flexible, zoned workspace. Open communication areas, meeting zones, and quiet retreats combine to form a balanced usage concept. Generous glazing, clear circulation paths, and a central staircase enhance orientation, transparency, and internal connectivity. Natural daylight, materials, and a calm aesthetic create a pleasant, functional working atmosphere.

Resource Efficiency Across the Building Lifecycle

Sustainability is embedded as an overarching planning principle throughout the project. The use of selected materials with a high recycled content, energy-efficient building systems, and modular, adaptable interior fit-out solutions supports resource-efficient operation throughout the building’s lifecycle. The concept is complemented by measures that improve the quality of outdoor spaces. Targeted certifications, BREEAM Excellent and WiredScore, provide transparency regarding both ecological performance and the quality of the digital infrastructure.

Raised Floors as a Technical Basis for Flexible Use

As part of the refurbishment, the Lindner Group supplied raised floor systems for approximately 14,000 m² of usable space. In close collaboration with long-standing partner WURKS, customised system solutions were installed to meet high standards of flexibility, sustainability, and technical integration.
Raised floor systems from the NORTEC (Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver) and LIGNA product lines were installed, including the particularly low-profile NORTEC LP 20 ST with reduced pedestals. Despite a construction height of just 80 millimetres, the raised floor provided sufficient space for integrating building services. Around 5,000 m² of NORTEC systems were installed in total. The construction allows flexible cable routing, easy adaptation to changing uses, and contributes significantly to the long-term functionality of the workspaces.

Delivery Expertise in an Integrated Project Context

In this project, the Lindner Group’s role was deliberately limited to supply only. Planning, installation, and on-site coordination were entirely managed by partner WURKS. Nevertheless, the supplied systems formed an integral part of the overall concept, aligned with the architectural, technical, and sustainability objectives of the project. The raised floor systems provide the foundation for adaptable work environments and supported the building’s clear architectural language.
