Stadthalle Bayreuth

The Friedrichsforum as a new cultural centre

Following the comprehensive refurbishment and extension of Stadthalle Bayreuth, the Friedrichsforum has been realised as a modern cultural and events centre in the heart of the city. Located close to Friedrichstraße, the New Palace and the Hofgarten park, the building combines historic fabric with state-of-the-art event technology, a high-quality visitor experience and flexible usage options.

As part of the project, Lindner Group was responsible for the high-quality interior fit-out of the Great Hall, the Small Hall and the Hofgartensaal. The result is a series of bespoke room concepts that combine demanding requirements for acoustics, fire protection, design and multifunctionality.

High-quality interior fit-out for multifunctional event spaces

The three event areas were equipped with individually designed fit-out components that integrate seamlessly into the sophisticated architecture of the Friedrichsforum. In addition to high-quality wall and ceiling finishes, flexible flooring and room solutions were implemented to enable versatile use of the spaces.

A particular challenge was posed by the complex room geometry: the prefabricated timber cladding elements had to be precisely adapted to the existing structures. In particular, the seamless transitions between ceiling surfaces, three-dimensionally shaped balustrades and side wall finishes required the highest level of precision in planning, manufacturing and installation.

Great Hall – variable acoustics and maximum precision

Measuring around 25 m in length and 21 m in width, the Great Hall forms the centrepiece of the building. Here, Lindner installed high-quality wall and ceiling finishes using the FIREwood system.

The sound-absorbing slatted cladding elements, based on calcium sulphate with a real wood veneer in a walnut finish, were installed on both the wall surfaces and the ceiling areas above the lower and upper tiers. The combination of a warm timber appearance, excellent acoustic properties and non-combustibility meets the high requirements of a modern event venue.

In addition, timber fire-rated and acoustic doors were integrated. For the extensive steel construction works – including steel stair structures and portal towers – Lindner supplied around 150 tonnes of steel.

Height-adjustable acoustic sails for variable acoustics

A particular highlight is the height-adjustable acoustic sail above the tiered seating, measuring 15 x 5 m. The structure was delivered in individual components, assembled on the floor and subsequently lifted to a height of around 14 m using cable chains. Thanks to electronic control, the position of the sail can be adjusted according to the type of event – from concerts and theatre performances to conferences or balls.

Flexible flooring system with FLOOR and more® arena

The flooring construction was also designed for maximum flexibility. The height-adjustable dry hollow floor FLOOR and more® arena was installed across an area of approximately 700 m².

The rear section of the floor can be electronically raised to form a tiered seating area, enabling different room configurations – from a traditional hall layout to an auditorium arrangement. A high-quality Lindner parquet floor was installed on top of the hollow floor system, completing the hall’s sophisticated aesthetic.

Small Hall and Hofgartensaal – materials and flexibility

In the Small Hall, Lindner combined high-quality materials with functional room acoustics. The wall finishes with a vertical slatted appearance were realised using FIREwood in an oak finish. Together with fabric-covered acoustic sails and wall coverings, they create a warm and inviting atmosphere.

In the Hofgartensaal, mobile partition walls enable flexible room layouts for a wide range of events. The fit-out is complemented by bespoke cabinet systems and FIREwood wall finishes, which integrate seamlessly into the overall design concept of the Friedrichsforum.
