Located in the centrally situated Kaffeequartier in Bremen, Pflegebildung Bremen has expanded its capacities by transforming space within an existing building into a modern education facility. The newly designed areas were specifically tailored to meet the requirements of contemporary nursing education and now provide a learning environment that effectively combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical training.
The self-designed “Skills Labs” allow students to practice core nursing tasks in a hands-on setting. In addition to spacious classrooms, digital teaching methods, open learning landscapes, and thoughtfully designed breakout areas create a motivating atmosphere where learning is engaging and the nursing profession becomes tangible.
The Lindner Group managed the entire tenant fit-out. Working within an existing building presented particular challenges: demolition, retrofitting, and adapting the original plans to the constraints of the existing structure required close coordination and technical expertise.
The use of environmentally certified floor systems created a flexible, sustainable infrastructure. The NORTEC raised floor system is both FSC-certified and Cradle to Cradle Certified® Silver, with its base plate made from nearly 100 % recycled material. Similarly, the FLOOR and more® hollow floor system allows rapid installation while providing ample space for technical installations and cabling.
In the drylining works, the Lindner Group applied its full interior fit-out expertise. Planum Type 2 partition glazing meets the highest hygiene standards through flush-fitted glazing while offering excellent fire and acoustic protection. Some of the glass partitions were fitted with decorative film, allowing both functional zoning and individual design elements to be realised. Combined with colour-accented walls, this approach resulted in a varied learning environment that reflects the school’s educational concept.
Beyond flooring and drylining, the scope of work included numerous trades such as electrical, sanitary, painting, metalwork, joinery, fire protection, tiling, as well as the installation of kitchenettes and breakout areas.
The refurbishment required close collaboration between project management, site supervision, and all involved trades. Complexity arose particularly from unforeseen conditions in the existing building and the continuous adaptation of plans to the real construction situation. Each trade aligned its work with the pedagogical usage concept and was implemented in close cooperation with the architectural office. Despite tight deadlines, limited budgets, and additional coordination with subcontractors, the project was completed on schedule and to a high standard of quality.
