The new City Campus office of a renowned strategy and management consulting firm combines innovative design, sustainable architecture, and New Work concepts in a distinctive atmosphere. Over more than 9,000 m², thoughtfully designed modern workspaces are available for around 1,000 employees, aimed at promoting employee well-being, creativity, business innovation, and workplace productivity. For this purpose, two adjacent buildings in downtown Zurich were extensively renovated and redesigned: including a former fashion department store on Sihlstrasse, notable for its curved facade and enlarged windows, which stand out in the urban cityscape. The striking exterior was preserved and carried through inside, enhanced with special interior design and architectural lighting elements.
The new City Campus now offers a wide variety of flexible work environments tailored to different needs across six floors: from open work islands to retreat zones and meeting cubes in various sizes, as well as comfortable meeting and collaboration areas.
Each floor and individual workspace was designed with unique color palettes. Eye-catching design elements such as wallpapers, carpets, and furniture are complemented by warm wooden tones on floors and partitions, alongside calmly designed partition and ceiling features. Equally important to the architects and designers from Evolution Design was ensuring optimal indoor air quality and acoustic optimization, as well as meeting high sustainability standards according to LEED certification. This was achieved, for example, through various sound-absorbing materials made from regional sheep’s wool or recycled PET bottles, as well as smart building technology and numerous green plants in the office environment.
The Swiss branch of Lindner SE in Opfikon, together with ISG and Plafondplan, carried out the complete fit-out of the City Campus using a variety of Lindner products and custom solutions. The ceiling systems were partly equipped with energy-efficient heating and cooling technology and appear as both continuous suspended ceilings and canopy ceilings in different zones. For the ceiling closure at the light well from the ground floor to the 1st floor, Lindner developed a custom solution: four rounded Plafotherm® heating and cooling ceiling elements combined into a suspended canopy ceilings, additionally equipped with the DS AirHybrid ventilation system featuring a concealed fresh air supply element.
Lindner also executed the glass partitions for the yoga room with the rounded Lindner Life Freeze 137 system. For additional meeting rooms and separated workspaces, Lindner Life Contour 126 was chosen, combined with matching glass doors featuring aluminum frames. Across all office spaces, Lindner floor systems in various configurations were selected: from HYDRO raised floors (for wet areas) and FLOOR and more® to LIGNA (wood-based raised floors) and highly sustainable NORTEC hollow floor systems made from calcium sulfate panels.
Despite customized solutions and adaptations to the existing building structure, the project was completed with a short installation time thanks to efficient coordination and collaboration within the joint venture.
